VRE Crystal City Station Planning and Design

Arlington County, Virginia

To better serve riders and accommodate population growth, including increased employment in National Landing, the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) will construct a new Crystal City Station that can handle longer trains and allow for bidirectional service. The third busiest station in the VRE system, Crystal City is currently limited by its single, short, outside platform and sole entrance—resulting in congestion and capacity challenges. As the recently selected Preliminary & Final Design consultant, VHB is partnering with VRE to provide environmental and engineering services up to the construction phase. The relocated and expanded station mobility hub will support Crystal City’s vision for growth by expanding capacity, improving operational efficiencies, and boosting ridership.
