Ruggles Station Expansion

Boston, MA

The Ruggles Station Platform project will deliver numerous benefits to the riding public and provide operational flexibility on Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Commuter Rail Service along the Northeast Corridor (NEC). Providing transfers between Orange Line, Commuter Rail, MBTA bus routes, and private area shuttle services, Ruggles Station is a key urban intermodal facility with extensive pedestrian traffic in and around the station area. VHB is providing overall project management for the station’s expansion. The multidiscipline project includes track, signal, communication, and power engineering; platform, station access and infrastructure planning and engineering; urban and transportation planning and design; parking and circulation design; environmental services; stakeholder and interagency coordination; and community outreach. When completed, the Ruggles Station mobility hub will provide commuters with shorter travel times, a reliable schedule with more convenient transfers, and improved accessibility to Northeastern University and the surrounding neighborhoods.
