When the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) looked to gather reliable information on commercial truck travel as part of an ongoing capital research program, they partnered with VHB to develop and facilitate the survey. Our team’s objectives were to identify future needs, monitor traffic volumes, and identify trends in travel at PANYNJ tunnel and bridge facilities. We developed the survey instrument and managed all aspects of survey administration, scheduling, and logistics. Conducting nearly 35,000 interviews of truck drivers, VHB summarized findings and delivered results in a comprehensive report that provided PANYNJ with future needs in addition to identifying current transportation trends.
