Environmental Services for H&SB Electric Transmission Lines Rebuild

Kingston to Catskill, NY

A transmission line constructed nearly 100 years ago is coming to the end of its useful life, and VHB is partnering with Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation (CHG&E) to rebuild it. The lines, named “H” and “SB”, are in a 23-mile corridor between Kingston and Catskill, New York. Upgrading the existing 69 kV lines to support 115 kV will enhance service reliability and help meet the energy needs of the local communities within Ulster and Greene Counties.

CHG&E turned to VHB to provide the necessary environmental reviews for the project and to identify natural and historical features that should be preserved. We have also conducted wetland and stream delineations, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) preparation, engineering studies and grading plans, visual impact analyses, and supported public outreach and public hearings. The VHB team’s coordinated efforts mean when the old transmission line is retired, the new line can slip seamlessly into service without any planned disruption to customers—or the environment.
